Year 12 Chemistry Excursion to La Trobe University

On the 6th of May, the Chemistry Units 3 and 4 students had an excursion to La Trobe University, Bundoora campus. The student groups worked at three different work stations in an effort to perform various chemical processes. The three practicals ranged from testing the rate of reaction to producing biodiesel. The experiments helped students grasp concepts which were difficult to demonstrate through theory alone. The trip was well organised and the work stations and demonstrators kept students engaged. All the staff present were helpful and had extensive knowledge of their work stations. Overall, it was a useful and refreshing excursion which helped students get a break from the busy school environment whilst reinforcing important concepts and aspects of Units 3 and 4 Chemistry. The experience, not only was informative, but also enjoyable for the students, as it provided an insight into chemical relationships within realistic environments.

The Year 12 Chemistry cohort would like to thank the La Trobe Uni outreach program for hosting this event, and would also like to thank Mr. Addo, for arranging this experience.
